A New Romance Writer's Editing Checklist
Writing Romance
Written by Dawn Arkin

There's an old saying in the writing world. Writing your novel is only half the job. Nothing could be truer. Getting your idea on paper is really only half the task. The other half is making it into a polished, ready to send off novel. That takes blood, sweat, and editing!

Many writers seem to think that what comes out of their fingers is perfect. That's probably because it takes such an effort to make the written words flow. How could they not be perfect? While some of your writings will be quite good right off the bat. Most will need some polishing to be ready for a publisher to read. That's where editing comes in.

Writing Romance
Written by M. Xavier

For those who can easily sink into the fantasy of a good book, there's no greater escape in the world. Gone are the every day struggles and worries of reality; replaced by the fictional drama provided in the pages of a novel. For those who love to read, it is truly a gift; a reprieve for the mind and a journey of the imagination. No other genre of fiction has been credited with delivering such fantasy as the romance novel; popularized by women worldwide and continuing to hold court as the guilty pleasure of many a generation.

Adding Descriptions Into Your Romance Writing
Writing Romance
Written by Dawn Arkin

Romance writing is not just about romance. It is about descriptions. Physical, emotional, and setting descriptions all help your readers feel what your character is feeling. It is what makes the difference between good and great romance stories.

Using descriptions is not as hard as it sounds. It is one of the key parts to show, not tell, your story. It is also a crucial way to show romantic tension, something every agent and editor looks for when trying to find their next bestseller. In the industry it is called descriptive tags and they are everywhere.

Four Things Successful Authors Share
Writing Romance
Written by Laura Backes

Several years ago, Anastasia Suen sent us this note, which still appears on our web site: "Yesterday's mail brought copies of Hodgepodge, with my poem on the back page, and an acceptance letter from Babybug for another poem! My poems in Shoofly will be out in April. ALL these leads came from Children's Book Insider! Thank you, thank you, thank you!" If you go to Anastasia's own web site today (www.asuen.com) you'll see that she's the author of 78 books, a writing teacher at Southern Methodist University, she leads eight online writing workshops, speaks at numerous conferences, and gets $1000 per day for a full-day school visit ($1500 if she has to travel). We like to think of Anastasia as our own personal CBI-success story, but really we can't take any of the credit. Anastasia did it because she's got what it takes to be a prolific, published children's book author. One thing Anastasia, and other writers like her, has is a certain stick-to-it mentality that says, "I want this, I can do this, and I absolutely won't give up."

Setting the Perfect Mood for a Romance Story
Writing Romance
Written by Tameka Norris

Reading a good romance novel is like setting sail on a grand adventure. You have no idea where it is going to take you or who you might meet on the way but you do know that it is going to be a great ride. But like any trip, you don't want to set sail without being prepared. That is why you have to create the perfect mood before snuggling up on the couch with your book and nice cup of tea (or whatever works for you!) at your side.

A romance novel, just like its name implies, is supposed to be romantic. Romance, however, is not something that you can just drive-up to a window and hand a cashier some money and then drive off with your goods. It must be finessed and created with a soft touch or else the moment is cheapened and all you end up with is some freaky background music and some psychedelic light show.
